What is Meals on Wheels?
Whittier Meals on Wheels is a non-profit volunteer service that delivers healthy, affordable meals to the homes of those who are unable to shop or prepare meals for themselves. Our aim is to help people remain in the comfort of their own homes during times of need.
Who is eligible for Meals on Wheels?
We serve adults who are homebound and physically unable to shop and safely prepare meals for themselves. This includes people with disabilities, those who may be frail, chronically ill, or recovering from surgery, accident or illness. Our clients may live alone or require a great deal of assistance to leave the house safely.
Where do you deliver?
Our service area covers Whittier, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs and nearby unincorporated areas.
How are meals delivered?
Volunteers, usually in teams of two, deliver meals to your home using their own cars and gas. This personal service ensures not only nourishment, but also an element of community care.
When are meals delivered?
Count on us! Your meals will arrive by noon, Monday through Friday, 52 weeks a year - excluding holidays*. We are committed to providing a consistent and reliable source of nutrition to ensure your well-being throughout the year. Your satisfaction and health are our highest priorities.
(*You will receive a written reminder that meals will not be delivered on these major holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day & Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day).
Where is the food prepared?
Meals are planned and prepared by PIH Health Hospital. They are well-balanced and nutritious, similar to food served in the hospital cafeteria. Meals vary throughout the month.

What are the types of meals?
Each day’s delivery includes two meals: a hot meal ready to eat and a sack lunch with a sandwich, some fruit, a dessert and milk or juice.
